Using Google Maps App in Lviv

My Airbnb is only a 10 minute walk from Rynok Square at the Center of the city. So getting around should be no challenge. Unfortunately my sense of direction is famously flawed and the map app would tell me to turn left, however the street name it was indicating did not match the name I was reading.  The result was a walk closer to 30 minutes.  I wasn’t thrilled with my disorientation, yet I was able to remain calm. Until I can learn landmarks, I won’t be venturing out far after dark.

I was happy to have this sweet guy greet me when I found my way home.

Lviv is an amazing city. I am so grateful to be able to spend 2 months here. Today I only had a small taste of what you can see here.

Lviv latte

I won’t be able to sample all the coffee shops, but do plan to revisit this sweet place called Фацет/Fatset. Cozy, pleasant atmosphere with friendly staff. I didn’t sample today, but they have soups, sandwiches, cheesecake and homemade spirits.

In addition to my mild place/topographical blindness. In other words I get lost a lot. I experienced an actual one eyed blindness. Still trying adjust to contacts, think I smudged one lense with moisturizer. So I just caught a small sample of what was happening in Lviv today.

A toast to being in Lviv
My home for the next 2 months

Making my first home made cup of coffee in Lviv, no fancy coffee maker required.

Coffee is ground very fine. You put grounds in a cup. I used 2 tablespoons. Then add hot watter and cover cup with a small plate. Then wait, add milk and drink.

Quick Travel Tips

If you are unlucky enough to have your flight delayed long enough for a hotel stay, be kind to yourself if it is in your budget and stay at a hotel inside the airport.

The Sheraton Hotel in Toronto provide me with a most welcome respite from the chaos of the airport. The lobby chairs are very comfortable with plenty of places to charge your phone. The tucked away restrooms are clean, spacious and not crowded.

The hotel restaurant provided me with the perfect opportunity to spend my meal coupons from Air Canada. The antioxidant salad with chicken was just what I needed.

When riding the tram choose your cabin mates carefully. As much as I tried to move away from the family of 12 on an adrenaline rush. One man, three woman and 8 1/2 children (one woman was pregnant) they found me and provided no stop action until we exited.

At times the last 24 hours felt like a scene from that movie “Terminal” with Tom Hanks. At least being stranded in Toronto I could speak the language.

I am now waiting to board the plane to Warsaw. Hope to relax and get some sleep.
