What are you busy at?

I’ve been considering this question this past month. It’s wonderful to have places to be, people to see, and work to complete. Sometimes I just need to force myself to stop and examine that unfolding rhythm of my days.

Each week I’m greeted with the challenge fulfilling others expectations, and doing what fulfills me. Would a stricter routine, a more rigid schedule help? Maybe a checklist would keep me on track?

Then I think about that John Lennon quote; “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” So I take a breath and try to let myself truly enjoy the present moment, whatever that may be. This is it, this is my life.

Highlight for last week, besides pulling together the AAWA Exhibition in Lansing. I donated two pieces to the Ecology Center Fundraiser “sustainable centerpiece” project. They will be sold during a silent auction. Hope they generate some funds for a good cause.

About Babs

I'm a narrative sculptor navigating her way through the ever-changing currents in what feels like an art ocean. Whether appreciating the calm rhythm of calls for art and exhibiting, or waiting to catch a big wave of inspiration to take me to the top. I just love being in the water. Formerly a pickle packer, theater major, crisis counselor and occupational therapist with a BA in Communications and a BS in Occupational Therapy, only to discover I've always been an artist. My work grows from a strong connection to people and a passion for discovering the beauty in ordinary things. I sculpt figuratively in clay, utilizing the female form and women’s themes. Frequently my inspiration is drawn from childhood memories and my own short poems. Like each of us as humans every work is uniquely influenced by the past and present and has a narrative.

    Hey Barb,

You described my sentiments and life as a whole. I am so busy being busy that I don’t get as much as I want done. If I slow down too much I feel like such a slug!

Either way, enjoyed your piece and bye the way…you are awesome!
