Art everywhere

It’s September. Fall is in the crisp, cool, air here. Soon I will be surrounded by the reds, yellows and oranges of the season. The beauty of autumn colors against a clear blue sky can be enough to inspire new art. I will also be taking time to reflect on my summer of travel. One of the highlights of my trips to Europe and Eastern Europe was discovering art that exists outside of galleries and museums. I’ll be sharing images I found interesting, artistic embellishments in the architecture visible everyday.   The image below was on the door to a private residence.

Remembering July

artfairbooth4Returning from Haystack my head was cluttered with ideas and I was eager to try some new things. I didn’t have time to play. I was headed on a path to production for the Kay Yourist Studio art fair booth. Ann Arbor Art Fair

Plaster Mold making and slip casting in porcelain gave me the freedom to create 50 unique pieces in a relatively short amount of time.

The combination of taking a class SLIP CASTING AND MOLD MAKING – Deb Saravolatz at Yourist Studio and the book I picked up at Haystack The Essential Guide to Mold Making and Slip Casting by Andrew Martin made the whole project possible.

Participating with a group of 11 artists was an incredible learning experience. We built our own displays, designed the layout, created an inventory system for sales and all worked shifts selling and demoing during the 4 day art fair. It was both exhausting and fun.

July was also a time to travel. The Art Fair ended July 18th, we were on a plane to Germany July 23rd . Our three country excursion (Germany, Slovenia, and Czech Republic) provided many opportunities to discover new images to inspire future projects. More about exploring ideas and inspiration later…
