Serpents and Heroines Occupy Rivers Edge Gallery in the Dotte

Growing up in Southwest Detroit we learned at a very young age that everything can be reused. Every object has more than one life, more than one story to tell. My sculpture begins when I discover an object with a story to tell.

“Affairs with Serpents and Heroines” exhibited at Rivers Edge Gallery in Wyandotte, provided me an opportunity to use these narrative skills to explore biblical, historical, mythological and folkloric tales.  Beginning with the literal interpretations I then moved to more conceptual themes connected to the broader issues of identity, faith, loss and hope.

As always, my work is a dialogue between myself and the viewer. It is my hope that we will work together to create a shared story.

Below is a preview of some of the work featured in this exhibit opening Saturday, Nov 12 and ending January 31, 2012.  I am fortunate to being exhibiting with two internationally known artists; encaustic painter Birgit Huttemann-Holz and photographer Patricia Izzo.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Faces

I’m trying to find my way back to posting on my blog again.  I saw this WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Faces, from September 16th and decided to post an image of some new heads I’ve started sculpting. I’m hoping it will help get me back in the habit of posting again.
